Domestic Violence Cases Are One-Sided And Stacked Against The Defendant
Denver, Arapahoe, Douglas, Jefferson, and Adams County Domestic Violence Criminal Defense
In my lengthy experience as a former prosecutor and defense attorney, it has become clear that the criminal justice system is stacked against the person accused of domestic violence. Police officers, for example, are required to make an arrest for domestic violence if there is any evidence regardless of whether the complaining witness is credible.
In fact, police officers will often times make an arrest without fully investigating the case or questioning the truth of the statement made by the complaining witness. Police officers do not care if there is physical evidence supporting (or contradicting) the complaining witness, and sadly, the police don't care about your side of the story. If there is a call for domestic violence, someone is getting arrested and that person is almost always the person who didn't call the police. These cases are a prime example that the first person who speaks with the police officers is more likely to be believed.
Unlike the police officers, I care about your story and I will make sure that your side of the events is told.
